Ian Hutchings

 

Trustee

 

Ian Hutchings has over 23 years experience as a health and safety practitioner, initially working in industry, followed by six years as a consultant with Det Norske Veritas and DuPont Safety Resources. Ian founded his own consultancy business in 2006.  Prior to working in health and safety, Ian spent nine years as an armourer in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in the British Army.  Ian saw active service in the first Gulf War, Northern Ireland and two tours of Bosnia as part of the United Nations Protection Force. 

 

Ian has extensive experience working with boards and operational management teams in education, charities and global private sector organisations.  Ian is a chartered safety and health practitioner (CMIOSH), a member of the Institute of Directors, member of the Chartered Management Institute and a member of the Institute of Consulting. Ian is passionate about a pragmatic and balanced approach to learning about risk for children and encouraging safe but challenging environments for them to grow as individuals. In addition to Ian’s workplace health and safety experience, he has developed and implemented safety plans for major events, such as the Aston Martin DBS59 bespoke car launch at the 2019 Le Mans 24 hour race, the red arrows Aston Martin car launch plus other significant events. 

 

Ian joined the ELT board of trustees to be able to provide input from his experience, in order to assist the trust to grow successfully as an organisation, whilst retaining its founding values and provide a safe, healthy and nurturing culture for the wellbeing of children, families and staff.
